Cloudera Asks Apache Hadoop Fans: Want to Spend a Day Hacking Code With Doug Cutting?

Winner of the 'Be a Cloudera Hero for Apache Hadoop' Contest Receives a Trip to San Francisco to Hack Code With the Creator of Apache Hadoop

PALO ALTO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/24/11 -- Cloudera Inc., the leading provider of Apache Hadoop-based data management software and services, is inviting Apache Hadoop fans to compete for the opportunity to spend the day in San Francisco hacking code with the creator of Apache Hadoop, Doug Cutting. The Be a Cloudera Hero for Apache Hadoop contest challenges Apache Hadoop users at all levels of experience with the platform to share how they use the power of Hadoop to solve real world problems.

For an entertaining take on how Apache Hadoop is helping companies today, watch Cloudera's new video -- What Can Hadoop Do For You? -- featuring commentary from Cloudera experts, including Mike Olson and Jeff Hammerbacher, as well as an introduction to the contest from Doug Cutting.

To enter the contest, contestants submit a short video showcasing their original ideas for what Apache Hadoop can do and why they should get the opportunity to hack code with Doug Cutting. A panel of judges from Cloudera will review submissions and select a winner. Contest page visitors can give their favorite contestant's video a "thumbs up" each day. The Cloudera judges will consider the most popular contestants' submissions when selecting the winner.

Contest Information

  • Contestants can enter any time between August 24, 2011, and 5:00 p.m. Pacific time on September 16, 2011. Expertise with Apache Hadoop is not necessary.
  • The Cloudera Hero for Apache Hadoop contest page will become open to the public on Monday, September 19, 2011, allowing visitors to choose their favorite entries daily.
  • The contest ends Friday, October 7, 2011, at noon Pacific time.
  • The winner will receive accommodations at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in San Francisco, Calif., from October 27 through October 30, 2011. See the full details on the contest page.
