For secure data transmission both inside and outside networks, CenterTools has certified IGEL Universal Desktop thin clients running IGEL Linux for use with DriveLock. In addition, IGEL has already integrated the DriveLock Channel into its thin client operating system.
Reading, UK 4th December 2012 - USB devices connected to IGEL thin clients have been approved for use with DriveLock, the endpoint security solution from CenterTools GmbH. The certification is the result of a wide-ranging partnership agreement between CenterTools GmbH, the international IT and data security specialist and IGEL Technology, the European thin client manufacturer. DriveLock centrally monitors and controls the USB interfaces on the IGEL thin clients without the need to directly install an application locally on these endpoint devices. With DriveLock in operation, companies can protect themselves against data loss and malware attacks without restricting employees' flexibility or impacting productivity. The solution is ideal for organizations that want to protect mission-critical data when using IGEL thin clients in cloud computing environments.
IGEL has also integrated the DriveLock Channel from CenterTools into its IGEL Linux thin client operating system. This means that the DriveLock solution is now available for all Linux-based IGEL Universal Desktop thin clients and IGEL's Universal Desktop Converter (UDC). The DriveLock user interface allows IT departments to establish a centralized device-control policy governing all rights for data access and transfer. For instance, IT administrators can specify whether users can access USB ports, the file types that they can transfer or whether they just have read-only rights. Whenever an interface on a thin client is placed in operation, the integrated software immediately transmits detailed information about the interface directly to DriveLock, and that interface is only enabled after its rights have been checked and verified. For the highest levels of security, detailed logging of all file access is also available. In short, DriveLock can monitor and enforce any company policy for using devices and removable media.
DriveLock's reliable interface control for thin clients and virtual desktops ensures secure data transfer on all platforms, such as Microsoft Remote Desktop Services, Citrix XenApp and VMware View. With DriveLock, USB drives connected to thin clients can also be automatically encrypted, keeping sensitive enterprise data protected against unauthorized access, even outside the company network.
"Deployment of IGEL Thin Clients with DriveLock support provides significantly increased and lasting security for our customers when sensitive data is handled at system endpoints. With the help of the Universal Management Suite, our customers can roll out this solution easily and cost-effectively," explained Matthias Toupalas, Product Manager at IGEL.
