This collaboration enables developers using Rackspace open cloud to benefit from Cloudant as an application data layer that scales up or down on-demand through a simple management interface. "Now that Cloudant is working with Rackspace, our customers have even more choices for dedicated, global cloud hosting of their data," said Cloudant CEO Derek Schoettle. "Cloudant customers deploy highly distributed, data-intensive, real-time applications, which is an ideal fit with Rackspace open cloud's global reach and tremendous performance."
The Cloudant Data Layer is a collection of database clusters that are hosted and scaled across multiple Rackspace data centers around the globe. With a CouchDB-compatible, RESTful JSON API, an incremental MapReduce engine, and built-in full-text search based on Apache Lucene, Cloudant delivers low-latency, highly-available data layer performance and pushes dynamic data distribution closer to the network edge.
"As a Rackspace open cloud customer, Cloudant's relationship with Rackspace brings us the best of both worlds: an infinitely flexible and scalable application data layer deployed on top of a cloud platform we already trust," said Chris Sharkey, CTO of Bislr. Bislr modernizes the creation, management and optimization of social websites to unleash the productivity and creativity of web marketers. "Together, Rackspace and Cloudant give us an application infrastructure that is easy to manage and will scale with Bislr's growth."
"This joint effort with Cloudant creates a superior customer offering that leverages Rackspace open cloud infrastructure backed by Fanatical Support®, and Cloudant's scalable NoSQL database service to deliver a big data store in the cloud to developers," said Pat Matthews, senior vice president of corporate development at Rackspace. "Having Cloudant offer their data layer on the Rackspace open cloud helps customers deliver scalable and reliable Web and mobile applications to market faster."
