Ubuntu llega a la telefonía, con una interfaz espléndidamente refinada y con una capacidad completa para PC cuando se acopla a ésta

Canonical anunció hoy una exclusiva interfaz para teléfonos inteligentes para su popular sistema operativo, Ubuntu, que utiliza los cuatro bordes de la pantalla para una experiencia de mayor inmersión. Ubuntu ofrece de manera excepcional a los OEM de teléfonos y a operadores móviles la posibilidad de concentrar teléfonos, las PC y clientes ligeros en un súper móvil de una sola empresa.

“Esperamos que Ubuntu sea popular en el mercado empresarial, permitiendo suministrar a los clientes un dispositivo único y seguro para todas las funciones de PC, de cliente ligero y de teléfono. Ubuntu está dirigido a dos segmentos móviles primordiales: Los súper móviles de alta tecnología, y los teléfonos inteligentes de nivel básico, ayudando a los operadores a acrecentar el uso de datos de los consumidores que normalmente sólo utilizan el teléfono y la mensajería, pero que podrían abarcar el uso de la web y del correo electrónico en su teléfono. Ubuntu también es atractivo para los que aspiran a ser consumidores experimentados que quieren una experiencia fresca con un desempeño más rápido y sofisticado, en un dispositivo con un menor costo de materiales.

La interfaz de teléfono para Ubuntu introduce experiencias particulares para el usuario nuevo del mercado móvil, incluyendo:

1. Edge magic: gestos del pulgar en los cuatro bordes de la pantalla que permiten a los usuarios encontrar contenido y cambiar entre aplicaciones más rápido que otros teléfonos.

Ubuntu ofrece opciones convincentes de personalización para partner apps, contenidos y servicios. Los operadores y los fabricantes de equipos originales pueden agregar fácilmente ofertas de su propia marca. El servicio personal en la nube de Canonical, Ubuntu One, proporciona servicios de almacenamiento y de medios de comunicación, intercambio de archivos y un servicio de transacción segura que permite a los socios a integrar sus propias ofertas de servicios con facilidad.

Canonical facilita el desarrollo de teléfonos con Ubuntu. La compañía proporciona servicios de ingeniería para aliviar la complejidad de mantener múltiples bases de código que ha demostrado ser un problema común para los fabricantes de teléfonos inteligentes, liberando al fabricante para que se enfoque en el diseño del hardware y en la integración. Más de 20 millones de PC de escritorio ejecutan hoy en día este SO, y Canonical estima que cerca del 10% de las nuevas computadoras portátiles y de escritorio en todo el mundo serán entregadas con Ubuntu en 2014. Ubuntu es también muy popular como una plataforma de servidor, el SO de servidores número uno en las principales nubes públicas y el principal SO de servidor para OpenStack, la IAAS de código abierto.
