ACTON, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/28/13 -- Phoenics Electronics, a fully franchised, technically supportive, stocking Distributor of semiconductor and board level solutions, today announced a new 1 Gigabit Ethernet (1Gb) Smart Network Adapter with bypass technology. The Niagara 804 fully offloads secure network services, packet classification and network protocols processing from the host CPU to handle high speed network traffic up to 2 Gbps line rate per port. The Smart Network Adapter comes in PCI-e form factor and is targeted at Networking and Security Appliances, Servers and Monitoring Systems.
The Niagara 804 is based on Cavium's Octeon II multi-core processors family of CPUs, which integrates 4, 6 and 10 cores, provides high performance integration for Deep Packet inspection and next generation 3G/4G/LTE wireless base station platforms, providing up to 15GHz of compute with a large 2MB L2 cache, DDR3 memory controller, security acceleration for SNOW 3G and KASUMI, TCP/IP packet processing acceleration, and QoS. PowerOptimizer technology limits maximum power from 9 to 20 watts from low-end to high-end.
"Our collaboration with Interface Masters provides the technology and support necessary to provide OEMs with a compelling development platform for high performance hardware accelerated 1G network processing that is easily integrated into networking, security and monitoring appliances," said Peter Rooks, Phoenics Electronics' CEO. "With support for 5Gbps to 10Gbps of deep packet inspection per adapter, failover support and Octeon II multi-core CPU offerings, the Niagara 804 is ideally suited for high performance processing, with extremely low operating power and an attractive price performance."
The smart NIC supports quad 1G copper interfaces, up to 8GByte of DDR3, PCI-e x4 in a full height half-length PCI- Express form factor. The smart NIC can be used as an independent platform which Interface Masters Technologies can customize to include different interfaces or specialized features.
Niagara 804 provides features that are essential for inline security appliance development:
- Octeon II multicore communications MIPS 64 Bit processor
- Up to 1.5GHz core operation
- Up to 10 cores
- Memory
- Up to 8GB DDR3 SoDIMM
- Quad 1G Copper ports
- Management port 1000BaseTX with RJ45 connector
