Apixio Inc., a leading provider of big data analytic and clinical data integration solutions for healthcare, announced today that it is collaborating with Intel Corporation to optimize Hadoop-based big data solutions for widespread use in healthcare.
“The evolution of big data enterprise applications demands performance optimization for data handling, analysis and storage. Given the computationally intensive nature of encryption, optical character recognition and analysis of unstructured text, scanned documents and images, there are specific performance challenges to be overcome in developing high-scale storage, querying and knowledge extraction capabilities,” said Shawn Dastmalchi, CEO of Apixio. “Apixio’s collaboration with Intel is critical for our ability to optimize the performance of our data center technology so that our customers can confidently use knowledge in real-time to deliver safe and cost-effective care.”
Live demonstrations of Apixio’s analytic solutions will be showcased at Apixio’s Booth (#4358) and Intel’s Booth (#940) during the HIMSS13 conference in New Orleans.
“Massive amounts of data are both a valuable asset and significant challenge for most healthcare systems because information is stored in different formats and is therefore difficult to analyze,” said Ketan Paranjape, Intel’s global director, healthcare and life sciences. “We are pleased to demonstrate how Apixio’s intelligent data aggregation and analytics platform, works with existing EHR systems to analyze both structured and unstructured information, knitting them together to reveal actionable insights.”
The two companies are collaborating to further performance optimize Apixio’s Big Data platform and its applications, including the Clinical Knowledge Exchange™ (CKX). By taking advantage of Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 servers, Apixio’s parallel computing platform derives insights from vast amounts of data and allows providers, care managers, and administrators to access real-time actionable information from a variety of thin client devices. For healthcare organizations, a better handle on data management and analytics can enable richer information access for patients, improved care quality, better population risk management, and lower costs. There are benefits for payers, as well, since the information revealed by big data analytics can improve utilization and risk management, and detect fraud earlier.
