United Food Bank Commends Passing of Farm Bill, Mourns SNAP Cuts

MESA, Ariz., Feb. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- President and CEO Lisa J. Pino of the United Food Bank of Arizona, former USDA Deputy Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights and former USDA Deputy Administrator of the SNAP program under President Obama's Administration, made the following statement on the passage of the Agricultural Act of 2014, or Farm Bill:

"The President's signing today of the Farm Bill is an historic moment as this legislation is intended to protect our nation's critical nutritional safety net and agriculture. We at the United Food Bank of Arizona, as a Feeding America member, mourn the extended SNAP cuts, yet we understand that compromise must occur for our nation to move forward. When 49 million Americans today, and 29% of Arizonan children, lack sufficient access to the food they need for an adequate diet, we must all act now. Congress finally stepped up to the plate in 2014, but we all must get involved to end hunger and build agriculture for a healthier food system in America.

We congratulate and thank Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, USDA Under Secretary Kevin Concannon, USDA's Food and Nutrition Service, the Administration, Feeding America, and the many dedicated advocates who have tirelessly fought for the passage of this legislation for the good of our country. We are pleased to see increased funding for our emergency food assistance programs, and we wish to engage all those who are interested in joining our steadfast commitment to ending hunger right here in Arizona. Too many Americans, including Arizonans, are struggling to put food on the table. Today reminds us that there is much more work to do in order to end hunger in America and nourish a healthier food system that truly serves all America."

Poor data quality and analytics drive down business value. In fact, Gartner estimated that the average financial impact of poor data quality on organizations is $9.7 million per year. But bad data is much more than a cost center. By eroding trust in information, analytics and the business decisions based on these, it is a serious impediment to digital transformation.
