Umbra Software today announced Umbra 3 for Cloud, a system for optimizing video game server logic. The new product brings savings on the hardware and energy costs and improves the quality of AI and collision detection.
Umbra 3 for Cloud contains several new features that game developers can take advantage of:
- Umbra 3 Ray Cast Query is an extremely fast line segment visibility test that the video game server can use to improve the game’s artificial intelligence (AI);
- Connected Region Query is used to accelerate the broad-phase collision detection and other spatial connectivity operations.
“Using the Umbra 3 for Cloud will enable developers to optimize many parts of the server logic including collision detection, AI and spatial connectivity“, says Otso Makinen, the Chief Technology Officer of Umbra Software.
With the power of the cloud processing power, video games can for example have much more life-like AI and dynamic situations resulting in even richer gaming experiences.
Umbra 3 for Cloud is supported on Windows, Linux and OSX. The solution can also be run on any client machine such as PlayStation®4 or Xbox One to support complex distributed servers.
