SAS® Visual Analytics customers get a double shot of updates

Relying increasingly on insight from data to make critical decisions, business leaders are demanding more from supporting technologies. They expect software to handle data, regardless of source and size, analyze all information and provide quick answers to complex questions.

SAS has heard its customers and delivered – in just three months – two significantly more powerful versions of its red-hot data visualization tool, SAS® Visual Analytics. More than 1,500 customers already benefit from SAS Visual Analytics, which combines data visualization and data discovery. They, and those ready to step up to graphical insight, will see faster and easier data loading, new text and unstructured data analytics, more reporting features and improved mobile device capabilities.

“The SAS Visual Analytics team has led SAS’ move to agile development, which helps us optimally meet customer needs,” said Jim Davis, SAS Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. “Our customers must move quickly in fast-changing markets. SAS is committed to delivering the analytics innovation they need.”

Telecommunications is one such volatile industry that will benefit from rapid delivery of new SAS capabilities. Telecom Italia, for example, tapped SAS Visual Analytics to add in-memory analytics and advanced data visualization to its geomarketing system, simplifying the decision-support and operational processes for technical and commercial planning.

"SAS Visual Analytics helps us identify network shortcomings and make fast improvements," says Fabrizio Bellezza, Telecom Italia Vice President of National Wholesale Services and Head of Market Development. "SAS also allows us to calculate the statistical correlations between various KPIs for more effective analysis.”

Based on SAS in-memory processing technology, SAS Visual Analytics is not only ideal for departmental or workgroup applications; it can also take on big data. Business professionals can spot opportunities such as new businesses or areas for improvement in less time than it takes to pour a cup of coffee. SAS in-memory innovation requires no data movement or user programming for its fast analytical processing.

Customers can choose how to deploy SAS Visual Analytics. Available for on-site licensing, SAS Visual Analytics scales from workgroups on a departmental server up to massive environments, including enterprise deployments supporting multiple lines of business and the Hadoop big data architecture. SAS supports Cloudera and Hortonworks Hadoop distributions. Customers can also use SAS Visual Analytics in a cloud environment.

The key strength of SAS Visual Analytics is integrated analytics from the world’s leading advanced analytics supplier. Industry analyst IDC’s Worldwide Business Analytics Software 2013-2017 Forecast and 2012 Vendor Shares report says SAS represents 36.2 percent of advanced analytics deployed by customers. All of the other named providers combined total just 24.9 percent.

What’s new?

Highlights of enhancements in December 2013 and March 2014 versions:

  • Text analytics lets users explore customer comments or Twitter streams to find opportunities.
  • Word cloud and network diagram visualizations quickly show influences and trends.
  • Enhanced mobile features for Apple iOS7 and Android devices improve usability on the go.

IoT & Smart Cities Stories
Recently, REAN Cloud built a digital concierge for a North Carolina hospital that had observed that most patient call button questions were repetitive. In addition, the paper-based process used to measure patient health metrics was laborious, not in real-time and sometimes error-prone. In their session at 21st Cloud Expo, Sean Finnerty, Executive Director, Practice Lead, Health Care & Life Science at REAN Cloud, and Dr. S.P.T. Krishnan, Principal Architect at REAN Cloud, discussed how they built...
When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...

Machine learning has taken residence at our cities' cores and now we can finally have "smart cities." Cities are a collection of buildings made to provide the structure and safety necessary for people to function, create and survive. Buildings are a pool of ever-changing performance data from large automated systems such as heating and cooling to the people that live and work within them. Through machine learning, buildings can optimize performance, reduce costs, and improve occupant comfort by ...
