Equiso launches Play on Kickstarter to bring affordable AAA gaming to the masses

Equiso, a proven developer of innovative consumer entertainment platforms, has launched its latest product Play on Kickstarter (bit.ly/equisoplay), with full production models promised to backers at just $99.

Equiso Play is a truly open source, power-packed gaming console able to stream all iOS and Android games seamlessly to full-screen HDTVs using gamers’ smartphones or tablets solely as slick controllers. It takes the best parts of playing on a phone - touch and precision - and merges them with the living room playing experience gamers crave. Equiso Play has already been prototyped and its Kickstarter funding target of $250,000 will put Equiso Play into full production at just $99.

Adam McBride, CEO of Equiso said: “We’re asking the Kickstarter community to be part of our vision to open up affordable gaming, and put control back in the hands of dedicated gamers. Android gaming is booming with nearly 1.2 million titles out there, so why are gamers limited to playing on smartphones and tablets? Equiso Play packs a huge performance punch for its price-point, handling all of the game processing itself so that smart devices can be used purely as pocket-sized tactile controllers without limitations - capable of playing and mirroring every Android and iOS game available.”

“With Equiso Play we’re not replacing the top-end, top-price living room consoles most of us already have; instead we’re offering something very different and far more affordable. The AAA titles once only available at full-price on traditional consoles are now coming to Android, paving the way for low-cost gaming with many titles under $5, or even free. Being open source is more than just running Android, it’s our commitment to the community and enabling developers to do more. We’ve taken the phone, TV and gaming apps we all have and fused them into one revolutionary playing experience without limits, lowering all barriers to entry further still by making game development truly open source.”

Equiso Play backers will play AAA games and indie titles on their full-screen HDTVs with full access to the Google Play store - packed with 1,132,053 games and apps - or other app stores, plus media channels including Netflix, Google Chrome, Vudu, Crackle, HBO GO and Hulu.

Prashant Someshekar, a developer for the community-built Android distribution CyanogenMod, said: “Equiso Play is a great product that provides an upgrade path for devices which have long been abandoned by their manufacturer and it can be quite immersive, especially if you’re working with a 60-inch TV. The company is comprised of many likeminded people who are extremely dedicated to the cause. I’m very excited to see what can come about in one’s own living room.”

Features:

  • Power: Equiso Play’s Quad-Core CPU and 8-Core GPU perform all the heavy-lifting game processing, fully-independent of players’ phones or tablets (and those batteries!)
  • Controller-free: Equiso Play for Android and iOS uses the best mobile touch interface available – the phone or tablet already in our pockets. Not all Android or iOS games can be played using separate controllers, but they can using Equiso Play and any smart device

A strange thing is happening along the way to the Internet of Things, namely far too many devices to work with and manage. It has become clear that we'll need much higher efficiency user experiences that can allow us to more easily and scalably work with the thousands of devices that will soon be in each of our lives. Enter the conversational interface revolution, combining bots we can literally talk with, gesture to, and even direct with our thoughts, with embedded artificial intelligence, wh...

The cloud promises new levels of agility and cost-savings for Big Data, data warehousing and analytics. But it’s challenging to understand all the options – from IaaS and PaaS to newer services like HaaS (Hadoop as a Service) and BDaaS (Big Data as a Service). In her session at @BigDataExpo at @ThingsExpo, Hannah Smalltree, a director at Cazena, provided an educational overview of emerging “as-a-service” options for Big Data in the cloud. This is critical background for IT and data profession...
Whether your IoT service is connecting cars, homes, appliances, wearable, cameras or other devices, one question hangs in the balance – how do you actually make money from this service? The ability to turn your IoT service into profit requires the ability to create a monetization strategy that is flexible, scalable and working for you in real-time. It must be a transparent, smoothly implemented strategy that all stakeholders – from customers to the board – will be able to understand and comprehe...
When people aren’t talking about VMs and containers, they’re talking about serverless architecture. Serverless is about no maintenance. The idea of comparing data in motion (at the sensor level) to data at rest (in a Big Data server warehouse) with predictive analytics in the cloud is very appealing to the industrial IoT sector. The problem Big Data vendors have, however, is access to that data in motion at the sensor location. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Scott Allen, CMO of FreeWave, discussed how as IoT is increasingly adopted by industrial markets, there is going to be an increased demand for sensor data from the outermos...
