COPsync Provides CJIS Compliant Remote Tech Support with Bomgar

Bomgar, the leader in enterprise remote support solutions, today announced COPsync is using its remote support solution to provide secure remote support to its clients. Based in Texas, COPsync operates the nation’s largest law enforcement real-time, information sharing, communication and data interoperability network. COPsync’s mobile application enables officers to efficiently gather information at the point of incident, and immediately share critical data with all officers on the COPsync network.

In January 2011, the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) enacted the Advanced Authentication provision, a compliance mandate that set forth minimum security requirements for accessing data within its system, including personally identifiable information such as fingerprint records and criminal histories. “This mandate was enforced in the state of Texas last year,” said Jeff Bachus, support analyst for COPsync. “At the time we were using Teamviewer to provide remote tech support to customers, and the Texas Department of Public Safety said we could no longer use it. So we began searching for a more secure remote support solution, and found that Bomgar fit the CJIS requirements and was FIPS 140-2 Level 2 validated, which were two priorities for us.”

With more than 500 law enforcement agencies using COPsync throughout Texas and Massachusetts, security is of the utmost importance. “When a police officer runs someone’s license at a traffic stop, they have access to very critical and sensitive data. We have to make sure that the solutions in place used to support these officers and access their computers is air tight in order to protect that data,” added Bachus.

COPsync uses Bomgar to support police officers using Windows desktops and laptops, whether they are in an office or out on the road. “Most of our support calls entail officers having issues connecting to the database or not being able to print a citation. Bomgar makes it easy for us to access those computers, at any time, to quickly solve the issue at hand,” said Bachus. Additionally, COPsync support has deployed the Bomgar Button on many computers so officers can quickly request support with one click. “We love how easy it is for the officers to ask for help by using the Bomgar Button. Many computers purchased by the agencies come through us first, so we add it to those computers for even easier access to remote support.”

“Many law enforcement agencies and vendors are finding that their current remote access and support solutions don’t stand up to the most recent CJIS requirements,” said Scott Braynard, VP of public sector at Bomgar. “Bomgar’s unique appliance-based architecture and robust security features make it a perfect fit for organizations who need to efficiently support officers out in the field, while meeting the strictest data security regulations.”

“If you are looking for a secure remote support solution that is easy to use, Bomgar is the way to go,” said Bachus. “For our specific needs, the fact that Bomgar meets compliance standards made it the best solution for us.”

The hierarchical architecture that distributes "compute" within the network specially at the edge can enable new services by harnessing emerging technologies. But Edge-Compute comes at increased cost that needs to be managed and potentially augmented by creative architecture solutions as there will always a catching-up with the capacity demands. Processing power in smartphones has enhanced YoY and there is increasingly spare compute capacity that can be potentially pooled. Uber has successfully ...
The deluge of IoT sensor data collected from connected devices and the powerful AI required to make that data actionable are giving rise to a hybrid ecosystem in which cloud, on-prem and edge processes become interweaved. Attendees will learn how emerging composable infrastructure solutions deliver the adaptive architecture needed to manage this new data reality. Machine learning algorithms can better anticipate data storms and automate resources to support surges, including fully scalable GPU-c...
We are seeing a major migration of enterprises applications to the cloud. As cloud and business use of real time applications accelerate, legacy networks are no longer able to architecturally support cloud adoption and deliver the performance and security required by highly distributed enterprises. These outdated solutions have become more costly and complicated to implement, install, manage, and maintain.SD-WAN offers unlimited capabilities for accessing the benefits of the cloud and Internet. ...

As IoT continues to increase momentum, so does the associated risk. Secure Device Lifecycle Management (DLM) is ranked as one of the most important technology areas of IoT. Driving this trend is the realization that secure support for IoT devices provides companies the ability to deliver high-quality, reliable, secure offerings faster, create new revenue streams, and reduce support costs, all while building a competitive advantage in their markets. In this session, we will use customer use cases...
Machine learning has taken residence at our cities' cores and now we can finally have "smart cities." Cities are a collection of buildings made to provide the structure and safety necessary for people to function, create and survive. Buildings are a pool of ever-changing performance data from large automated systems such as heating and cooling to the people that live and work within them. Through machine learning, buildings can optimize performance, reduce costs, and improve occupant comfort by ...

Poor data quality and analytics drive down business value. In fact, Gartner estimated that the average financial impact of poor data quality on organizations is $9.7 million per year. But bad data is much more than a cost center. By eroding trust in information, analytics and the business decisions based on these, it is a serious impediment to digital transformation.
