Virtualization Technologies and the Manageability Challenge
Virtualization technologies are being adopted in every corner of the enterprise, from server hardware to user data
Nov. 10, 2008 05:27 PM
SYS-CON Events announced today that more than 40 Cloud technology providers, as well as Virtualization and SOA companies will exhibit at the upcoming 1st International Cloud Computing Conference & Expo (www.CloudComputingExpo.com), November 19-21, in San Jose, California. The conference will be colocated with SYS-CON's 4th International Virtualization Conference & Expo (www.VirtualizationConference.com).
Virtualization technologies are being adopted in every corner of the enterprise, from server hardware to user data. In general, virtualization increases flexibility, but complicates manageability, security and access. Traditional management suites, originally designed for physical assets, tend to be less effective in virtual environments and with virtual assets. Add the growing trend toward consumerization in the enterprise, and the challenges grow. A new approach to endpoint management is required, one that recognizes that the end-user environment is of primary concern, not the underlying infrastructure, be it physical or virtual. Streaming is an established virtualization technology that can provide both the user context and the just-in-time endpoint configuration required to effectively and efficiently secure and manage the endpoints. The session will cover three main points:
- The challenge of managing and tracking software assets in virtual environments for EULA compliance
- Leveraging user-based application streaming and virtualization across traditional, virtual and hybrid emerging compute models for maximum ROI
- Mixed model approaches for managing disaster recovery and consumerization of IT
Speaker Bio:
Brian Duckering was responsible for product management and marketing of the award-winning AppStream application delivery and management platform until the recent acquisition of AppStream by Symantec. With AppStream, plus virtualization software from Altiris on board, Symantec has created a new Endpoint Virtualization product group, and Duckering is its primary evangelist, advocating the use of the various virtualization technologies available today to promote higher productivity for end-users and better system manageability and cost reduction for IT.
Duckering brings over twenty years of industry experience in developing and bringing to market innovative technologies to enterprises and small businesses. He is highly skilled at leveraging the latest technologies to enhance products and services for the benefit of their users. Duckering has held senior level positions at both corporate and consumer-facing companies and has multiple degrees in engineering and technology management.
Free Cloud Computing Bootcamp on Nov 20, 2008, in San Jose, CA
1st International Cloud Computing Conference & Expo will offer a free "Cloud Computing Bootcamp" (http://cloudbootcamp.sys-con.com) on the second day of the conference, Thursday, November 20, 2008. Cloud computing is an opportunity for business to implement low cost, low power and high efficiency systems to deliver scalable infrastructure. But moving to a cloud infrastructure is not necessarily as nice and clean as the providers would want us to think. With cloud infrastructures problems don't magically go away, they just shift: you don't have scalability or storage problems any more, but you need constantly monitor the cloud and your application in it. In this compelling, intensive, one-day, hands-on training program, you will learn what it takes to take advantage of the Cloud - and whether it is right for you in the first place.
